Notion export guide

How to export your Notion workspace

Already decided to leave Notion — price, the Russia block, block-editor fatigue, or something else? Here's how to actually get your data out, before you've even picked where it's going.

Exporting your Notion workspace, step by step

  1. 1

    Open Notion's export option

In Notion, go to your workspace settings and look for the export option (in current versions, under Settings & members → Export content). Notion's menu wording shifts between updates, so if you don't see that exact label, look for "Export" anywhere in workspace settings.

  2. 2

    Choose Markdown & CSV

Notion offers a few export formats — Markdown & CSV, PDF, or HTML. Markdown & CSV is the most portable: pages become plain text files that other software can actually read, unlike PDF or HTML, which are really just for viewing.

  3. 3

    Download and unzip the export

Notion emails you a download link (large workspaces can take a few minutes to generate). You'll get a .zip file — unzip it and you'll see a folder of .md and .csv files mirroring your page structure.

  4. 4

Import straight into eNote — skip the manual reformatting

Instead of manually recreating pages in a new tool, use eNote's one-click Notion import: point it at your exported folder and your notes come in as notes, with structure preserved as well as Notion's own export allows.

Questions

What format should I export in?

Markdown & CSV. It's the only one of Notion's three export formats meant to be read by other software — PDF and HTML are for viewing, not re-importing.

Will I lose my page structure and nesting?

Some of it, yes — that's a real limitation of Notion's own export, not something any destination tool can fully work around. Markdown export flattens some nested pages into a folder of linked files, so deeply nested workspaces may need light cleanup after import.

Can I import the export directly into eNote?

Yes — eNote has a one-click Notion import that reads your exported Markdown & CSV files and creates matching notes, so you don't have to copy-paste each page by hand.
